Why so few women? UGM poll
Just before the Christmas break, the ASX unveiled a plan to tackle the very small number of women at the top of listed companies in Australia. Currently, women occupy fewer than 10% of board seats and just 10.7% of senior executive roles. This means we lag a long way behind the US, UK, Europe and New Zealand. Clearly, there’s a problem.
Essentially, the ASX plan will ask listed companies to disclose their:
1. Diversity policy (with actions to secure better representation)
2. Number of women overall
3. Number of women senior executives
4. Number of women on the board
They are planning further, more severe, steps if this request falls on deaf ears.
At UGM, we’ve been actively researching this issue for the last eight years but we would welcome your views as well. We’ve found that, generally speaking, people would like to see more women at the top. But the things they have tried thus far haven’t really worked.
We've compiled a short, anonymous online questionnaire on the obstacles preventing change in this area. There are just 8 questions and will take less than 5 minutes to complete. We do hope you will share your views with us, and we promise to give you the outcomes in our next newsletter. Your ideas will also feature in a book due for publication later this year.
Please drop an email to info@ugmconsulting.com and we'll send you a link to the online survey. Alternatively, feel free to give us a call.
